A proper skin care program always starts with a great cleanser. Many skin conditions can be stopped before they begin simply by ensuring the skin is cleansed properly, utilizing ingredients that don’t strip or sensitize the skin in any way. Using a great cleanser before bed, to remove the impurities of the day, including makeup, goes a long way in reducing the formation of blemishes and blackheads.
Unfortunately, many products contain a long list of ingredients, many of which are not beneficial to the skin, and may in fact cause issues with skin health and quality. When choosing a cleanser, a short list of ingredients is always best. Some of the ingredients we recommend avoiding in your cleanser include; Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) / Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) as these are harsh detergents that strip the skin of its natural protective lipids barrier. This opens the skin to bacterial attack as well as sensitivity issues. Alcohols, Menthol and Fragrance are some other common ingredients that can cause dryness as well as sensitivity issues to occur.
Look for ingredients such as variations of Olive Oil, Jojoba, Vitamin E and Rose Hip when choosing your cleanser, as these provide a gentle yet effective skin cleanse without the effects of the drying chemicals.
