Many skin sensitivities arise from using the wrong products.
Perfumes, essential oils + certain chemicals are common causes of irritation and inflammation for sensitized skin types. Simply handling a product containing essential oils, and then touching ones face, can be problematic for some individuals.
Harsh exfoliants such as those products containing crushed walnut shells or other types of "gritty" materials can lead to micro scratches on the skin surface or a compromised skin barrier function leading to irritation, inflammation and rash or little red bumps.
There are benefits associated with natural, organic, AND synthetic ingredients. The key is making sure they are the RIGHT ones for your skin, your skin care goals, and don't compromise your health.
Are there enough active ingredients in your skin care?
While inexpensive drug store brands tend to be a little light on the beneficial ingredients and heavy on the fillers, there are also plenty of expensive products that contain little if any active ingredients. Get to know your labels, and spend a moment investigating what is actually in your products. Ingredients such as peptides, (eg: Matrixyl 3000, Syn-Ake), anti-oxidants (eg: Vit E, Alpha Lipoic Acid), and other skin savers such as hyaluronic Acid should be obvious on the label, and listed in a way that shows they are in high enough amounts to make a difference. If there are 30 or more ingredients in your product, and the good stuff isn't listed until close to the bottom, you may not be getting the beneficial product you think you are.
Read the labels, don't exclusively trust the marketing
The beauty industry is notorious for made up and confusing terminology. Can't decipher what that "new and impressive" sounding ingredient actually is? Chances are it's a combination of things you already know, recombined to confuse the consumer. Real and lasting results take time, and while you can plump out a small wrinkle with hydration, peptides and those ingredients that work with the body can take 3-4 weeks or more to really kick in.
Keep It Simple
If you have the right mix of ingredients in your key products, then there is no need for multiple day, night, eye, plumping products. Many times skin care companies will break ingredients up and spread them across many different products merely to increase the amount you need to spend on their range. It isn't necessary and sometimes can do more harm than good. For many people a good cleanser, moisturizer and serum will do the job.
