3 Must Have Anti Aging Ingredients.

Is your skin showing signs of aging? While we can't stop the process, we can certainly keep skin looking youthful and vibrant with the right ingredients in our anti-aging skin care.  Here are 3 of our favourite anti-aging skin care ingredients that should be a part of every skin care routine.

hyaluronic acid, peptides, aha, for beautiful skin

Peptides

What they are:  Peptides are protein segments that actively communicate with cells to encourage them to behave in a particular way.

What they do:  Peptides, when used in skin care are multi purpose. Some peptides support elastin to encourage collagen production (our bodies natural fillers) while others aid in healing to reverse skin damage and visible signs of aging, alleviate redness or even signal muscles to relax minimizing dynamic wrinkling.  Copper peptides are a great example of a "small molecule" that can enter the skin layers encouraging healing and repair of damaged tissues. Peptides come highly recommended for those serious about keeping skin as youthful as possible.

Common types of peptides:  Pentapeptide, Acetyl Hexapeptide 8, Oligopeptide, Copper Peptide, Dipeptide (look for variations of these in your skincare products)

Alpha Hydroxy Acids / Beta Hydroxy Acids

What they are:  Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA's) are gentle organic acid exfoliators that are effective at dissolving the materials that bind surface skin cells together, sloughing off dead skin to reveal the youthful skin layers underneath. Cellular turnover (which typical slows with age) is encouraged, keeping healthy skin at the surface, reducing debris and brightening dull & dry skin. Derived from fruit (Malic & others), sugar cane (Glycolic acid) & milk (Lactic acid).  Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) refers to Salicylic acid which is derived from plants, oil soluble, and effective at deeply penetrating oily & acne prone skin types.

What they do: They exfoliate, allowing better penetration of serums & moisturizers in aging skin. AHA's can help reduce the appearance of brown spots and fine lines /wrinkles.  Remove dead skin cells and help keep pores clear

      Hyaluronic Acid

What it is:  Although it sounds harsh, hyaluronic acid is a humectant (meaning it absorbs water from the skin dermis & air), which is found naturally in our bodies tissues.  It lubricates connective tissues and maintains skin's natural moisture and elasticity while helping regulate cell renewal.

What it does: Hyaluronic acid, used in skin care products, creates a barrier of hydration on the skin, plumping and softening to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Each molecule of hyaluronic acid is capable of holding 1000 times it weight in water, which is a huge benefit to dehydrated skin types.
