You've finally decided to try out the latest, greatest miracle cream that's been getting rave reviews from beauty editors and "in the know" influencers on social media. You've heard all the stories about how smoothly the product applies, and seems to miraculously reduce signs of aging while providing instant hydration...what's not to like?
Sometimes things aren't how they seem....
If one of the top ingredients is dimethicone (or a variation such as cyclomethicone, dimethiconol, phenyl trimethicone) you've uncovered a little secret your product manufacturer was hoping you wouldn't notice. Especially when you've spent a small fortune on a product promising healthier, younger looking skin.
It's the "fools gold" of the industry. Dimethicones can make skin feel "slick" and smooth by coating and filling in the creases, but they have very little value to offer in a properly constructed anti-aging skin care program. The "coating" action leaves skin "feeling" temporarily hydrated but dimethicone and other silicones provide zero benefit to the underlying health of ones skin. The longterm use of a dimethicone based product may actually leave your skin begging for some real hydration.
Our recommendation? Toss the dimethicone. Look for products rich in hyaluronic acid, squalane, avocado oil, cetearyl alcohol or glycerin...all much better options if you want dewy soft, deeply hydrated skin that will deliver all the good stuff where it makes a difference.
