Wow, did you just get back from vacation? You look so rested and energized!

Who doesn't love to hear that? When our skin is at its best, people notice. Unfortunately, when it's at its worst they also notice. And of course, we want to feel our best and confident in our reflection.

If your skin is feeling and looking dull, off colour, tired and lacking that beautiful glow, it could be due to one or more of the following:

Lack Of Sleep

It's called beauty sleep for a reason. Sometimes life and work cause us to "burn our candles at both ends", but it's super important to make an effort to get a good nights sleep as often as possible. Lack of, or frequently interrupted sleep can create a rise in inflammatory cells which lead to a breakdown of youth giving collagen. We also won't repair as quickly or easily, leading to increased signs of aging. We suggest staying off electronic devices and avoiding alcohol prior to bedtime as these can inhibit a restful sleep.

Stress

It's difficult to avoid some stress in todays world, but it's important to find ways to manage stress levels as much as possible. High stress leads to increased cortisol levels and triggers "glycation" which causes the breakdown of collagen. Again, we really want to preserve as much of the youth giving collagen as possible. Be sure to take a break for yourself every now and then, or perhaps a massage?

Smoking

It's highly addictive, so we get it's hard to quit but here's another great reason to do so. Smoking not only reduces the oxygen content of your blood, but depletes many nutrients such as vitamin C which is crucial to collagen formation. See a trend here?

Vitamin Deficiency / Protein Deficiency

A balanced diet is important for healthy looking skin. Our bodies (and skin) require a mix of amino acids and nutrients to repair cellular damage and provide the building blocks for optimum collagen production. By eating a varied diet, rich in fruits, nuts, vegetables, your body will have everything it needs to effectively repair itself.

Dehydration

Dehydrated skin looks dull and tired. Drink plenty of water, and be sure to use a good moisturizing skin product.
